The King In Yellow

Cinema 4D/Octane/After Effects

This is a Title Sequence for my Junior Thesis, from a Lovecraftian Noir book, The King in Yellow.

Each story carefully tells how the King slowly invades all of their lives when they read his book, eventually they either die or go mad. Most fascinating factor are the highly detailed descriptions of the incidents that happen throughout the book. One of the stories, The Mask, is about three friends who discover a liquid that turns anything into pink marble, but later they experience hallucinations and nightmares and become victims to the King and the cursed liquid.

For this project, I will not be showing a whole linear story line from the book, traditional path of title sequences. Showing just key items of the story, such as a goldfish and woman petrified in the cursed liquid, the King appearing in dreams, blood on roses, and of course, the cursed book.

I plan on following a stylistic choice of the uncanny valley range, where things look very realistic but slightly off in a way one cannot tell. Color choices will be kept simple, in order to enhance the work of compositional choices and attention to details.
